Questions
What parents ask the front desk
Is the clinic really free?
For households under our income limit, our lawyers’ time costs nothing. Above it, there’s a sliding fee agreed in writing. Court filing and service fees are separate, and we help you ask the court to waive them.
Will the other parent know I contacted you?
No. What you tell us is confidential. We do run a conflict check by name, which stays inside the clinic.
Can you help if I’ve already started the case myself?
Yes. Bring every paper you’ve filed or received. We’ll see where it stands and what comes next.
Do you go to court with me?
When we take your case, yes, to every hearing. For some families we offer advice only, and we’ll be clear at the start which it is.
I don’t speak much English. Can you help?
Yes. We arrange an interpreter for your visits at no cost to you, and courts provide interpreters for hearings.
Can I bring my children to the visit?
If you have to, yes. We have a corner with books. It’s easier to talk if someone else can watch them.
